Hiring Godwick Great Barn – day one the set up day
At Godwick Great Barn we generally operate a three-day hire period so every Godwick couple get the exclusivity of having the venue to themselves, but also the opportunity to make it feel their own, stamp their own personality on to the day so it feels unique to them and their guests. It’s a very important part of how we feel weddings and the wedding experience should be.
With a three day hire, the first day – wedding day eve – is set up day, so you can customise the venue (within the constraints of a grade two listed building) to the feel the way you want it to feel. This is your chance to add your various design touches, props and flowers and let your creative juices flow. We love it when couples express themselves and go to town, but we also appreciate that for some the beauty and natural rusticness of the barn is enough as it is.
As its set up day it is also an opportunity to get some of your friends and family involved to help you with the work. It’s a really satisfying, if busy day, but it’s a vital part of the experience and really helps make the wedding day even more special. We normally meet couples from 10am in the morning and will have set up what we can in terms of tables and chairs and generally we then leave you to it, although we are normally around and about if you need anything. With all the best plans and know-how expect the set up day to fly by and before you know it you’ll be running out of time and needing to get back to Godwick Hall for some food before you run out of steam. If you have the option and the budget, I always advise couples to have the caterers lay the tables as they have the staff and a job that takes you several hours takes them only one. You can set up a dummy table, so they then follow a plan with all the rest of the tables.
It’s a day of ticking off a long list of jobs to get the venue looking the way you want it to and although it can be hard work carrying and making things is ultimately very rewarding. It’s also an opportunity for your florist to add their touches too.
However, dressing and styling a massive 16th Century barn can be a daunting task for even the most creative and stylish of our couples, which is why we are offering every couple who book a Godwick Great Barn three day wedding package a free styling consultation with Penny from Little Lending Company from now.
Penny is one of our wedding co-ordinators, but has an amazing eye for creativity and really helped my wife and I when it came to adding those touches that make Godwick look absolutely stunning. In your one hour styling consultation, Penny will be able to give you some pointers about what works at Godwick and the areas to think about styling to have the most impact.
It will be a great way to start channelling some of your ideas, so you can get your own styling plan and theme in place, not just in your own mind, but so you can communicate it to your merry band of helpers, who all need direction of what to do and where and when!
It’s the most amazing part of a Godwick wedding and it’s what makes every wedding different, because it is your wedding and not ours. Good luck, but remember it really is the fun part and an opportunity to make your wedding different from all the other weddings you’ve been to.
