Planning your wedding at Godwick – first steps
Congratulations you’ve chosen Godwick and we are very honoured to host your wedding here and I do mean that. Even in the middle of a very busy wedding season, I think it’s really important that we never lose sight of how lucky we are to be such a big part of people’s celebrations! Celebrating commitment and love…there’s something special about that.
This post just explains the booking process and how it works. Once you have made a firm commitment that you want to book a date at Godwick we will hold it for you for 10 days, while you register your ceremony with Norfolk County Council by completing an online form.
Norfolk is quite a busy wedding location and so there is a possibility that your date and time may not be possible, although generally it is the time rather than the day that you may have to be more flexible with, and we haven’t had a date that hasn’t been possible…yet!
The registration service normally responds pretty quickly but I believe it can take up to five days to find out whether a registrar is available to make the date and time you are requesting. During this time we take the date “off the market” so it’s not available to any other couples, so you don’t need to panic about us still marketing it.
We recently had a meeting with the registration services, as we are one of the 20 most popular wedding venues in Norfolk, and they wanted to tell us about a new online service that allows couples to book their slots with the registrars online rather than having to wait for a response to the online form. This is great news and will hopefully speed the whole process up which is good news all round.
What we generally do during the time we are waiting for confirmation that the ceremony and registrar has been booked is ask for the couples for their full contact details. Then we can start preparing the paperwork for the deposit and for our terms and conditions, which we need signed and returned to us.
Once confirmation has been received, deposit paid and T&Cs returned, that’s it your date is reserved with us and you can begin planning. One of our wedding coordinators will then be assigned to you as your point of contact at Godwick and they will get in touch to help you start the process.
For some couples we find they take to planning their wedding like a duck to water, for others it is far harder, particularly if they haven’t had experience organising events in their work or social lives. Of course, being organised is a big help, but our planners are on your side too, to try and guide you through the process and keep you on track.
This is the where the real fun starts and I’ll write more about this in future, but from my experience of getting married at Godwick (and you’d think I’d know what to do!!) you can tick off a number of big things quite quickly, such as the band, entertainment, food and bar etc…but you may agonise for ages over the wording of your invitation or its style.
Don’t panic that’s natural, keep your mind focused on the big picture of what style of event you are trying to create and try to keep that in mind as you plan your way through your wedding. In the end, you want a coherent theme and style, and that really helps the event to hang together.
NB… We do offer couples the opportunity to pencil in a date, while they finalise things or organise a second viewing with their parents or friends for a second opinion. Our rules are simple, you can pencil in a date, but if someone else desperately wants that date and are ready to pay the deposit, then we will give you the first opportunity to pay the deposit to secure the date, and if you are unable to do that then we will offer it to the other couple.
