Tree and hedge planting begins and the sun shines
I really feel that we have been blessed at Godwick so far this year. Unlike those poor farmers in the West Country dealing with the floods we have escaped relatively unscathed.
However, a break in winter and the first signs of spring, were still welcome, particularly as we were tree planting!
Being a novice tree planter, I didn’t quite realise what back breaking work this would be! What I thought would take a day, took the best part of three and that was with a mini digger.
The work itself is quite rewarding, as you turn the soil structure upside down to encourage the roots to take hold and discourage weed growth by having the subsoil at the top and this stifles competition, so the trees can hopefully grow away healthfully.
We have planted a traditional mixture of hardwoods with one Scots Pine. I’ll post the list in full some other time.
All-in-all good progress planting 26 trees and a decent amount of hedging and it’s great to have started the landscaping!
Pics to follow when I get back online!
