Wendy and Jan’s wedding September 2013
One of our lovely couples from this summer has kindly written some words about Godwick, to help us pull together a feature on their wedding at Godwick Great Barn.
These are Wendy’s words.
Godwick Great Barn is a very special place. You don’t have to visit on a perfect, sunny, calm summer’s day to realise that. We first went there in deepest darkest November and the building work was not yet finished. There was a pile of rubble in the middle of the floor, under the old beams, surrounded by the ancient brick walls. Despite the grey, damp skies and chill, howling wind – we felt the warmth of this place. Maybe it’s the glorious countryside it’s set in. Maybe it’s 500 years of history. Maybe it’s the sheer beauty of the original structure and the more recent renovations. Maybe it’s the wonderful Garner family that have made this place into the most intimate, elegant and peaceful place to get married. Whatever it is, saying my vows to the man I love in Godwick Great Barn is something that will stay with me intensely all my life. James and Sue let you get on with it – there aren’t too many rules and as a result, our guests were well looked after but totally relaxed. These two are such nice people that they gather around them others of the like – the staff from both Hatters and Julie Abbs catering were exceptional and became another glorious thread to the woven tale of our day. One of them turned up on the back of the tractor, driven by James – with a platter carrying Champagne and enough glasses for everyone having their picture taken at the ruins. Stuff like that just happened. It was seriously impressive. The next day I looked out from the Godwick Hall window, towards the barn and felt a wave of love towards the place. Godwick Great Barn is a very special place – and it has a very special place in out hearts.
Lovely kind words, so thank you Wendy.
I also asked Wendy’s wedding stylist Clare Lee if she would write a few words about how she styled Godwick Great Barn. Hopefully it will give you some inspiration as to how you can decorate the space at Godwick to make your day so very, very special.
Clare’s blog will be appearing very soon along with a selection of photos from the day that shows how the barn was set up.
