Godwick Great Barn raises over £5000 for Macmillan Centre at Kings Lynn Hospital
We are really pleased to announce that our charity event in May this year called “Ballroom at the Barn” raised £5,105 for additional equipment for the Chemotherapy Unit at the Macmillan Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
My dad and myself presented the cheque to staff nurses Jeremy Dent and Linda Gaffney last week in honour of my late mum Sara Garner, who wanted the fundraising to benefit this worthy cause. We know she would have been very proud.
The “Ballroom in the Barn” element was the brainchild of Miranda Durrant, who along with Karen Kendle and myself, organised the event.
We really hope that guests enjoyed a fabulous night and I would like to thank everyone who attended and those who kindly supported our fundraising with donations or auction prizes or by giving so generously on the night.
Everyone’s warm-hearted generosity really did make it possible for us to raise over £5000, a magnificent total.
Of course, the loss of my mum was too quickly followed by the very sad passing of my sister Sally Grove.
Sal was just 50 when she died after battling breast cancer for the best part of 16 years. She made it to the ball despite being very poorly at the time, a testament to her courage and strength, and she had a fabulous night, particularly in the photo booth, so kindly donated by The Booth Experience.
So we thought it only right that with the backing of her husband Steve that we would hold another charity ball, but this time in Sal’s honour. The date has been set for 3 May 2014 and all funds raised will go to support the new Breast Cancer Care development fund at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn.
An organising committee has been formed and we will soon be having our first meeting and planning will be underway, so more details will follow soon.
Once again, I’d like to thank everyone who attended, and all those who supported our event and fundraising activities.
