Time to down tools and reflect….
Having completed about seven or eight weddings and events this spring/summer…
I hesitate to call it summer, although today the mercury much be shooting up way beyond 20 degrees C at last…
And we currently have a little time at Godwick to down tools before our next tranche of events that runs to the end of September. So I thought it a good time to reflect on some lovely feedback we have had so far.
It really does mean a lot when we get feedback that makes us proud. Very proud. So while this maybe a little self-indulgent, I think it’s good to know what others are saying about their experiences of being here.
Our first wedding of the year was Steve and Jen’s in April. A blustery spring day, fine enough for everyone to enjoy being outside and yet retreat inside when required. It was a very personal affair and both Jen and Steve were always a pleasure to work with. They got married in nearby Great Ryburgh and then made it to Godwick for their reception and some stunning photos at the ruins, which they walked to. The hall looked fab when they had finished decorating it, beautiful flowers, handmade wedding favours of little bottles of Sloe Gin and lots of candles. They created a really lovely atmosphere.
Fantastic! This is quite simply a stunning venue to host any occasion. We chose to hold our wedding reception here a year before we actually got married as James’s vision for the work he wished to carry out sounded ideal for what we were looking for (the pictures speak for themselves!). The barn is amazing and you cannot fail to be impressed by its history and charm. The staff at Godwick were brilliant and made life extremely easy for us from running the bar and providing the catering staff (who were excellent!!) to putting us in contact with local suppliers. We were allowed to put our own stamp on the venue and decorate it to our liking. Godwick simply couldn’t have been more accommodating and we couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Many thanks to James and all the people at Godwick.
In mid May we hosted an event to celebrate the 60th birthday of our local GP Dr Alan Collett… It was a fabulous night and I really enjoyed hosting all the family for breakfast the next morning, where complete with hangovers, it was a joy to hear the laughter from the dining room. It felt as it should be a relaxed and joyful occasion. Here Madeleine Collett, Alan’s wife, tells us what she thinks
Having already successfully celebrated one family event – a wedding – at Godwick Great Barn nearly five years ago, it was naturally the venue of choice for my husband’s 60th birthday party this year. I wanted to make it a large, very personal affair drawing on our family and friends from all the different times and areas of Alan’s life so far. James, Miranda and Sue very quickly turned all my ideas into very real possibilities and had plenty of excellent ideas of their own for me too. A real meeting of minds took place and come the day everything fell perfectly into place. Together with Tom from Norfolk Bar Hire and Hatter Events and the caterers recommended to me by GGB, nothing was left to chance. Indeed, when guests turned out to arrive more gradually than anticipated, Tom skilfully managed the kitchen so that the buffet came out at exactly the right times and in the right amounts to suit all. The Balloon Lady’s designs provided just the right ambiance of fun and decoration I wanted and the band Whirligig provided all the music and entertainment we required, interspersed with exactly the right amount of the quieter background atmosphere needed by 60 year olds in order to chatter and catch up on old times! James and his team are so professional, everything seems entirely personal. They care as much about everything going well as you do. Then, either beforehand or when the party is over, there are amazing bed and breakfast facilities to truly pamper yourself in. I cannot recommend this venue or this team highly enough. Go there yourselves. You’ll enjoy it!
And finally we recently held our first ceremony and wedding reception in early June. Kate and Ben’s stunning wedding provoked this comment from one of their bridesmaids on Facebook that I would like to highlight…
A fantastic setting and wedding venue I may add. Thank you for everything and for taking great care of us. It was a very special day and weekend
